During their 2015 annual convention in Kunming, China the WBC ordered some fights, which would form a tournament for their super welterweight title.
Today the WBC announced a revised competition, stating that they are “are extremely disappointed by the non-compliance of several boxers who had committed to participate in the process.”
The revised tournament will begin with Jermell Charlo vs. John Jackson for the WBC world super welterweight championship. This winner of this contest will then make two defences.
WBC silver champion, Charles Hatley, has been named as the first mandatory challenger and will face the winner of Charlo vs. Jackson.
Demetrius Andrade will face off against Willie Nelson with the winner claiming the second mandatory contender spot.
Finally, Ishe Smith and Jorge Cota will square off in a semi-final eliminator, and the winner will become the wildcard in the tournament.
