John Ryder claimed victory in a tough contest against Adam Etches, scoring a unanimous decision and securing the IBF international super-middleweight title.
At the end of the evening, the judges at ringside scored the contest 117-111, 116-112, 118-109.
Both men entered the competition needing a win to truly revitalise their careers. However, it was Ryder who took advantage of the event and was able to get the upper hand against Etches early on.
Etches looked to land power shots but struggled with Ryder’s style. In round five, he also found himself in very murky water after being caught with a barrage of brutal uppercuts and he was forced to hold on for dear life.
The following rounds saw Etches eye suffer somewhat with Ryder landing straights at will in the eighth.
By the tenth round, Etches eye was severely swollen and as such his options were extremely limited. He was clearly behind on the cards and searching for a show stopper in the championship rounds.
Ryder, clearly the superior man on the night, had worked too hard to get stopped at the last hurdle and he claimed a unanimous decision on the cards.
