Ruben Guerrero, father and trainer of Robert Guerrero (33-4-1, 18KOs) is keen to see a rematch between his son and WBC welterweight champion, Danny Garcia (32-0, 18KOs).
Garcia and Guerrero squared off in January with Garcia scoring a unanimous decision victory and claiming the WBC crown.
Team Guerrero feel they were true victors on the night and a rematch will allow them to set the record straight.
“We know we won that fight. Everybody knows it. They didn’t win that fight,” said, Ruben Guerrero. “We’re just waiting for the rematch. We deserve the rematch. It was a hell of a good fight. Everybody knows it. They say it was close, but I know we won it. That’s all I gotta say. I know boxing. Just because he’s my son doesn’t mean I’m saying he won it, but to me, he won it.”
“Right now everything’s up in the air. We’re pushing for the fight. We’re pushing for the rematch. If we get it, we get it. If not, we move on. It’ll come in time. We’re going to fight sometime in July. That’s what we’re looking at. We’ll see what happens. We’re ready to fight again. Robert’s fresh. He didn’t take no beating.”
Perhaps, however, Ruben’s most interesting words were “I guarantee it, we’ll take him out this time.”
