Former world champion, Miguel Cotto (40-5, 33KOs), is ready to announce the name of his next opponent, according to Cotto’s trainer, Freddie Roach.
The Puerto Rican legend last saw action in November when he lost on points to Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez.
Cotto’s return to the ring was expected this summer, however, as is often the case nowadays, viable opponents were hard to find.
Roach admits he is still in the dark when it comes to the name of the opponent but is confident that all will be revealed very soon.
“Miguel told me they were finishing something up, and he seems to have an opponent,” Roach told ESPN Deportes. “But, he wouldn’t tell me the name, because he says I have a big mouth and I talk too much and he prefers not to reveal it, yet.
In the past few months we have seen many names associated with Cotto, including; Juan Manuel Marquez, Amir Khan, and Kell Brook. All three of these names, however, are problematic in one way or another.
Khan is, of course, coming off a KO loss to Canelo, Brook was rejected by Cotto’s team, and Marquez, who has always been seen as the frontrunner, is recovering from a knee injury and very unlikely to fight at 154.
“All I know right now is that Miguel is very close to confirming his next fight, and they will release the name of his opponent very soon,” said Roach.
