Shane Mosley (49-9-1, 41 KOs) will return to the ring to face WBA interim welterweight world champion, David Avanesyan (21-1-1, 11 KOs), at the Gila River Arena in Glendale, Arizona on May 28th.
The bout will be Mosley’s third outing since coming out of retirement last year and scoring back to back knockout victories against Ricardo Mayorga and Patrick Lopez. However, this time, Mosley is not only looking for a win, but he’s also chasing a belt.
Avanesyan, a native of Russia, claimed the interim title in November 2015 when he stopped Charlie Navarro in the ninth round of their contest for the vacant belt.
The hard-hitting Russian also has one other claim to fame; he was the man who injured Kell Brook in sparring, forcing the IBF champion to withdraw from his much-anticipated clash with Diego Chaves.
Mosley, a former three-division world champion, is, however, not fazed by the challenge “I plan to put on a clinic,” said Mosley on Twitter. “I’m not just gonna win. I’m going to annihilate him. In 2009, they said I was done. #Wrong.”
