IBF cruiserweight champion, Victor Ramirez, was fortunate to emerge as a champion this evening after scraping a draw against Ovill McKenze in Buenos Aires.
McKenzie (25-12-1, 13 KOs) took the fight with Ramirez (22-2-1, 17 KOs) on 11 days notice, agreeing to fight on the champion’s home turf and very nearly walked away with the IBF crown.
The three judges at ringside scored the bout 114-114, 115-113 Ramirez, and 115-113 McKenzie.
McKenzie was able to successfully frustrate Ramirez throughout the fight via good movement, keeping his distance, and using his jab well.
Ramirez, on the other hand, had a higher punch output and when he eventually did get on the inside he looked a touch tougher than McKenzie.
Undoubtedly, both fighters will look back at the tapes of this fight and feel somewhat annoyed at the close rounds they let slip.
