Amir Khan (31-3, 19KOs) has called upon the services of WBO light-middleweight champion, Liam Smith (22-0-1, 12KOs), to help him prepare for his highly anticipated contest with Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (46-1-1, 32KOs) on May 7th in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Khan, who is moving up two weight classes to fight Alvarez, has enlisted the help of Smith to boost the quality of his sparring ahead of the biggest fight of his career.
Khan is hoping Liam’s style will help him prepare well for Canelo. However, since the pair shares a gym in Bolton, this won’t be the first time they’ve shared a ring.
“Me and Liam did some sparring back in 2013 before the Diaz fight,” Khan told the Daily Star. “But that was my first fight since moving up from light-welter, and I was still killing myself to make the catchweight of 143lbs.
“This time I’m bigger, stronger and punching harder so it will be a good comparison between then and now.
“I think Liam will be surprised by what he sees from me this time, it will be some good work.”
