Amir Khan (31-3, 19KOs) is working on a potential rematch with Danny Garcia (31-0) a source close to Khan has exclusively revealed to BNTV.
“Khan is keen to avenge his loss to Garcia. It may be a lucrative fight [against Pacquiao], but he [Khan] just wants to get back in the ring and set his place at 147, against Garcia for the WBC belt, and that’s a good route, no?”
Khan was always working on plan B if the Pacquiao deal fell through, and this revelation suggests Garcia is that plan.
Both Khan and Garcia work with Al Haymon and, therefore, such a fight should be easy to make. There are even whispers that Haymon is working to make this fight happen in early 2016.
Khan, waited three years to fight Mayweather to no avail. In total, Khan was snubbed on four occasions. In that time Mayweather preferred Marcos Maidana (twice), Manny Pacquiao and Andre Berto over the British Olympian.
So, understandably, Khan is not enthused by the idea of waiting around anymore. Even for a chance to share the ring with Manny Pacquiao.
Perhaps, for Khan, the Garcia fight makes the most sense. Garcia has improved his game since the pair previously met. However, Khan is arguably the more well-rounded of the two. If Khan remained focused for 12 rounds a comfortable points victory is a realistic outcome.
If he can complete this plan, Khan can; get revenge over Garcia, silence his detractors, cement his place in the welterweight division and win the WBC title. In my humble opinion, that’s not a bad plan at all.
