In an interview with ESNEWS, Amir Khan stated that he feels, Saul “Canelo” Alvarez, has the edge over Gennady “GGG” Golovkin if the pair should face each other, as is expected, later this year.
In May last year, Khan bravely moved up to a catchweight of 155lbs to face Canelo. However, despite controlling the early rounds, Khan was unable to overcome the considerable size difference between the pair and was stopped with a massive shot in the sixth round.
Khan insists that Canelo will emerge victoriously should he fight GGG, as is expected, in September.
“I think a lot of people underestimate Canelo,” said Khan. “Canelo is a good fighter. He’s very strong. He moves quite well. I give that fight to Canelo – honestly. I even underestimated Canelo before fighting him. Even if Canelo fought GGG, I honestly think he beats GGG. A lot of people underestimate him, I don’t know why.
“I’ve been in the ring with Canelo. I’ve never been in the ring with GGG, but I’ve been in the ring with Canelo and he’s hard to hit. He’s quite tricky and like I said he hits very hard, so you have to give him that respect. I think that he gives a lot of people problems.”
