Daigo Higa secured a first round stoppage over Mexican flyweight, Moises Fuentes, to secure a second successful defence of his WBC crown.

In victory, Higa was able to maintain his 100% knockout ratio, equalling the Japanese record, which is held by both Tsuyoshi Hamada and Akibee Ushiwakamaru.

From the opening bell, both fighters successfully found their mark. However, with less than a minute left to go in the first round, Higa’s power began to take its toll on Fuentes.

Eventually, the Champion was able to land a vicious left-right combination leaving Fuentes on his knees and although the challenger was able to rise on the nine count, the referee called a halt to the contest.

Going forward it seems likely that Higa will face his mandatory challenger, and WBC Silver Champion, Muhammed Waseem.
