Murat Gassiev claimed a 12th round TKO victory over Yunier Dorticos to unify the IBF and WBA cruiserweight titles at the Bolshoy Ice Dome in Sochi, Russia.

Gassiev will now progress to the final of the World Boxing Super Series final, where he will face the current WBO and WBC Champion, Oleksandr Usyk, on May 11th in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

Dorticos found some success early in the fight. However, Gassiev was landing clean power shots in every round, and they started to take their toll as we reached the midway point of the bout.

Dorticos’ chin was undoubtedly certified as granite tonight, but the gritty Cuban eventually succumbed to a left hook from hell in round 12. Dorticos rose from the canvas, showing real heart and courage, attempting to fight on, but was dropped twice in quick succession before the referee, Eddie Claudio, called a halt to proceedings with just seconds left on the clock.
