Mikey Garcia claimed the WBC lightweight title with a spectacular knockout victory over Dejan Zlaticanin at the MGM Grand, in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Garcia started strong, beating Zlaticanin to the punch and landing solid shots, which left the champion with a bruised nose in the first round.

Zlaticanin was able to get closer to Garcia in the second, but the round was again dominated by the challenger, who simply looked too strong for the champion and was able to comfortably beat him to the jab.

Garcia’s straight right hand penetrated Zlaticanin’s defence on more than one occasion during the contest and is a testament to the power he displayed.

In the third round, Garcia’s strength proved too much for the champion. Garcia caught Zlaticanin with an uppercut, sending him stumbling into the ropes. After losing his bearings, Zlaticanin tried to find his feet but inadvertently turned into a right hook from hell.

The hook left Zlaticanin knocked out cold under the ropes and the referee instantly waved the fight off.

Mikey Garcia, ever the sportsman, cut his celebrations short when he realised his opponent could be hurt.

After a few minutes, with the help of the medics, Zlaticanin was able to sit upright. He was later taken to hospital for a check-up, where he was given the all clear.
