Undefeated middleweight contender, Sergiy Derevyanchenko, claimed a fifth round stoppage over a previously undefeated, Kermahl Russell, at the Fitz Tunica Casino & Hotel in Tunica, Mississippi.

In the fifth, Derevyanchenko landed a right hand, which hurt Russell, sending him back into the corner. Derevyanchenko then proceeded to unload on Russell until referee, Bill Clancy, called a halt to the contest with just over a minute left in the round.

In the opening stanza, Russell took the upper hand, using his speed, height and reach advantages to establish the jab and break through Derevyanchenko’s guard.

In the second round, Derevyanchenko upped his game, landing a number of clean left hands in what was a tightly contested round.

In the third, Derevyanchenko, took the bull by the horns and gained control of the fight. Russell tried to launch a counter-offensive in the dying moments of the round, but the Ukrainian was not swayed and continued to mount his attacks.

Round four saw Derevyanchenko increase his work rate, landing at will throughout the round and leaving Russell looking troubled.

In the fifth round, Derevyanchenko went in for the kill, unleashing a relentless barrage of punches until referee, Bill Clancy, called a halt to the fight.
