An official protest over Fedor Chudinov’s decision loss to Felix Sturm in Germany on Saturday has been filed by the Russian stars promoter, Patriot.
This, however, was not the first time the pair had met. During their first encounter, Sturm lost via decision in a close contest for the vacant WBA super middleweight title.
Chudinov went on to make a successful voluntary defence of his crown against Frank Buglioni before a rematch with Sturm was ordered by the WBA.
Sturm claimed his fifth world title in the rematch with a majority decision victory. On the night, judge Ignacio Robles scored the bout a draw, 114-114, whilst judges Jean-Louis Leglande and Giuseppe Quartarone both scored the fight 115-113 in favor of Sturm.
Many pundits and fight fans were unhappy with the result, labelling the decision a “robbery”.
Patriot, in their official protest, called the result “In our opinion, the decision was wrong, unprofessional and dishonest”.
