Davies, the former IBF super-featherweight world champion, lost his crown on the scale, after failing to make weight in his last outing, on the undercard of Mayweather vs McGregor and is now ranked number five by the IBF.
Perhaps one of the favourites to face Gervonta is the Australian, super-featherweight Billy Dib.
Dib, a former featherweight world champion, is currently ranked number three by the IBF, his last win coming in December 2017, when he claimed a unanimous decision against Thailand’s Phum Kunmat.
ESPN.com recently reported that the IBF ordered purse bids to be made for Davis vs Dib on January 29th. However, both teams informed the IBF that they were close to a deal. As a result, purse bids were postponed and rescheduled for February 6th.
When Showtime announced their 2018 schedule on Wednesday, Gervonta Davis had been allocated a slot, on April 21st, with an opponent to be announced.
It is likely that Davis’ bout will act as to co-main event on the Broner vs Figueroa card at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
