Chris Eubank Jr will make the first defence of his IBO World Super Middleweight Title against Arthur Abraham on July 15th at the SSE Arena in London.
The bout will be Abraham’s fourth opportunity to fight for a world title since having previously held world titles at both 160 and 168 pounds.
While the bout will be Abraham’s first contest on British soil, the veteran is no stranger to British fighters, having already fought Carl Froch, Paul Smith, and Martin Murray.
At the opening press conference for the contest, in London, Abraham spoke about his admiration for British boxing fans and what he expects from the fight.
“I’m very happy to have the opportunity to fight here in England,” Abraham said. “The UK boxing fans are amongst the best in the World, and I look forward to putting on a great show on July 15.
“I will train hard with my coach Ulli Wegner. I will make sure I’m in top shape and ready to secure a great victory. I know Chris Eubank Jr is a good fighter, like his father. I’m expecting a tough fight, but I’m confident I will beat him!”
Eubank Jr feels this fight provides the perfect opportunity to cement his spot in the super middleweight division and is confident he has the tools to exploit Abraham’s weaknesses.
“Arthur Abraham has my respect,” Eubank Jr said. “He has done what he’s done in his career, but now it’s my time. I have been preparing my whole life to fight the best, and now, I have the opportunity to fight one of the top super middleweights in the World, and to really make my mark in the division.
“Abraham is a strong, come-forward fighter, but he’s one-dimensional. He’s very good in that one dimension, but a one-dimensional fighter cannot beat me. I see a lot of holes in his game, and I’m going to exploit those holes ruthlessly.”
